Baseball is referred to as “America’s Pastime.” Many people argue it is one of the hardest sports to succeed in. Out of the four major sports in the United States, hitting a 95 mile per hour fastball is a goal only few can accomplish at a professional level.
Although baseball has been and may still be considered America’s national pastime, it has not happened without incident. The game of baseball was initially racially segregated, only completing the final desegregation in 1959, twelve years after the signing of Jackie Robinson.
Why baseball is America’s pastime. Whether boy or girl, man or woman, 5 or 105, baseball holds a special place in every American’s heart. There’s nothing quite like a day spent at the park watching the ball team.
However, being on the field was not the only place that cemented my love for America’s pastime. In fact, the front of my TV actually influenced me a lot. I would watch almost every depressing Met’s game and sit in front of my computer playing two-dimensional Backyard Baseball 2003.
